Kristol: Independent Candidate to Announce This Week

Bill Kristol, Editor of the Weekly Standard and veritable leader of the Never-Trump movement, kicked up a fire storm over the holiday weekend with a single tweet.

Confirming rumors that have been circulating for weeks, Kristol predicted that this week will see the announcement of an independent presidential candidate.

In his tweet, Kristol teased, “Just a heads up over this holiday weekend: There will be an independent candidate–an impressive one, with a strong team and a real chance.”

The Never Trump movement has been vetting potential candidates seriously even before the Indiana primary had concluded in which Donald Trump effectively clear the deck for his path to the GOP nomination.

According to insider reports, the movement whittled down a list of potential candidate to a person who is well respected among conservatives and who polls very well against Donald Trump.

Should the candidacy build steam, it could threaten to create a new precedent in presidential history in which no candidate wins a majority of the Electoral College.
